Random Project is the result of a collaboration between Torbjörn Berg and Roland Persson during an artist residency in Buenos Aires in Argentina 2007. The question arose of how to approach a continent and how to choose a place to work from? The project has the working title perdon (excuse) and is about to back down, to clean up and to apologize.
They let chance govern the choice of venue for projektet. In Stockholm, they shot with a magnum 44 on a city map of Buenos Aires. With a perforated map they went to Argentina to find the place. It proved to be a smaller house that was in the district of Villa Ortuzar in northern Buenos Aires.De were well received by those who lived in the house.
In Buenos Aires the garbage is put directly on the street. In the nights and early mornings comes the "cartoneros" and removing the piles. They live on collecting and selling pieces of cardboard. The phenomenon of "cartoneros" has increased exponentially after the economic crisis in 2001.
The exhibition includes a model of the house they shot away from the map. The house is built in a colonial style from the last century is carefully recreated in a box bought in the streets of cartoneros.
During the opening of the exhibition also displays an interactive artwork in the form of two set tables, where artists in Buenos Aires and the art audience in Candyland, Stockholm meet through a video projection in real time.
To shoot with a magnum 44 on a map! An absurdly excessive violence or a humorous attempt to approach the idea of macho culture? The project raises questions about the modern explorer and how to try to communicate with another culture.
